Experience Flinders by Foot in 2015

If a walking holiday offering magnificent scenery, unique accommodation and fabulous food and wine is high on your wish list for 2015 then Rawnsley Park Station’s Flinders by Foot guided walks are likely to fit the bill.

The award-winning tourism operator has released dates for this year’s three and five-day walking tours, with the first walk of the season departing on April 20 and subsequent departures at least once a month until October.

Rawnsley Park Station owner Tony Smith said the Flinders by Foot walks were the ideal way to discover this beautiful region, with scenery including towering ranges formed more than 500 million years ago, red-gum lined creeks and valleys covered in native pine.

“The Flinders has magnificent scenery and fabulous wildlife which makes it a great place for walking,” said Tony.

“Through Flinders by Foot, Rawnsley Park offers a mixture of walks which take in some of the most scenic areas of the Flinders, including beautiful sections of the famous Heysen Trail.  It’s a truly magical place that really opens up its secrets when you get off the beaten track.

“Walking also offers the perfect way to see the region’s wildlife, which includes red kangaroos, emus, euros and wedge-tailed eagles, up close in its natural habitat.”

The walks are escorted by bushwalking author Kym Tilbrook, who has been walking in the Flinders Ranges for over 40 years.

“Our aim is to give people a great adventure during the day and at night they can relax with fine dining and get to know their fellow walkers,” Kym said.

“Some of the highlights include sections of the Heysen Trail in Wilpena Pound, an early morning climb to view the sunrise over the Flinders Ranges from Rawnsley Bluff and the beautiful rock pools in the Blinman Pools area.”

The all-inclusive tours include accommodation in Rawnsley Park’s luxury eco-villas, winner of the Unique Accommodation category at the South Australian Tourism Awards for the past three years; transport to and from each day’s walking location; and all meals, including dinner each night in the Station’s Woolshed Restaurant.  Accommodation in Rawnsley Park’s 3.5-star holiday units is also available.

Though a reasonable level of fitness is required, walks are tailored to the abilities of the group.

Costs for the walks are $2450 per person for the five-day walk (1 BR eco-villa accommodation) or $1975 in a 3.5-star holiday unit. Three-day walks are priced at $1535 per person in an eco-villa or $1250 in a holiday unit.  All costs are based on twin-share – single supplements apply.  Accommodation-only packages, for partners or friends who don’t want to walk, are also available.

Five-day walks will depart on April 20, May 4, May 11, June 15, July 27, August 17, September 14, September 21 and October 12.  Three-day walks depart on April 22, May 6, May 13, June 17, July 29, August 19, September 16, September 23 and October 14.  Additional dates are available on request.
