Mt Ive Station in the heart of The Gawler Ranges has Lake Gairdner as its Northern boundary, 247km west of Port Augusta. This pastoral sheep station is the only property within the Gawler Ranges with visitor facilities. Since purchasing Mt Ive Station in 2002 the Newton family, staff and friends have strived to preserve and share their special place in an amazing outback landscape. Opening up more station tracks to unique scenery and historical areas, renovating or just enjoying a drink from the Spinifex Bar with others, gives us much pleasure.

Private access offers a view to the beautiful pristine Lake Gairdner, with its white salt bed nestled into the contrasting red sand and rock hills is like no other. Film producers have likened it to the “Jewel in the Crown” of locations. Many land speed records have been made on the lake. The absence of any intrusions into the landscape can reward visitors with scenery and a wilderness experience of the highest quality. Visitors are welcome to explore private tracks to historical, geological and scenic places, along with observing station life on the 230,000 acre property.

From North, South, East or West the ultimate wilderness experience. An ancient landscape of spectacular scenery, historical land marks and SOLITUDE. Enjoy the scenic views and historical sites whilst using Mount Ive as your base for an Outback Adventure in South Australia. Accommodation varies at Mt Ive from our Stone Rooms (made up with sheets, quilts etc.) and Shearers Quarters which are located next to the Communal Kitchen, Dining/Recreation room and BBQ area and our camping areas which has powered and unpowered sites with Gazebo for shade and shelter (firewood available in season).

A basic kiosk and Liquor Store are also located at Mt Ive supplying fuel, liquor and drinks and other small items. EFTPOS is available. However we do ask that you please bring your own food to Mount Ive or organise to have food supplied ahead of time which can be done by contacting our staff at least a week before arrival. The Kitchens has all the facilities for you to prepare your own meals and the Recreation room is a great place to relax and play some table tennis, darts or board games. A BBQ area is also available to you and is a perfect way to eat outdoors at night when the weather is good.
